As the previous strip shows, Loretta's parents weren't the only ones who kind of thought it would be nice to see Loretta and Reg get together -- in fact, Reg's parents would have actively approved of that match, because Loretta's family is rich and "suitable."  That's one of the reasons they were so furious when he suddenly sprang Felincia on them; they'd assumed that Loretta and Reg's brother-sister relationship would eventually change into what they wanted to see.  They were wrong.
