For the past seven or eight months, Aylia's mother has been avoiding her and wailing at even the mention of her name.  But now that there's a crisis, she seems to have forgotten the whole thing!  Well, that's Lettie for you, the conflict-avoider.  As long as Aylia was the source of her current woes, she was avoiding Aylia.  Now that Alassa's the new cause, Aylia's the person she decides to run to for sympathy.  Aylia is just a tad confused about this sudden-and-extreme shift.
