My father-in-law is an English professor who takes his subject seriously.  When he assigns reading, he expects his students to (gasp) actually read it.  Now, I'll grant that, like a lot of English majors, I would frequently fudge reading assignments in favor of just taking notes in class lectures and parroting back what the teacher had said when our tests came, but that's not precisely how one's supposed to do things -- and Dron is a big proponent of actually doing work and learning.
