I toyed with the idea of Kuralla being too interested in the mermaids to react the usual way, but I quickly realized that she was precisely the sort of person who'd be startled and shocked by its grating rhythms and jarring atonality.  So Daria remains the only person who actually likes the mermaids' music -- she has extremely strange taste.  It might have something to do with her being a dragon, but I'm apt to think it's mainly because she's tone-deaf and not particularly picky.
