Edriss isn't stuck up herself, but she's used to dealing with people who are.  While she doesn't precisely play the "postering and backstabbing" game, she's perfectly fine with building connections with people who are or have been, because that's the way you get ahead in a politically-driven community.  She tends to hold herself rather aloof from such proceedings, and she doesn't particularly like them, but she finds them useful enough for furthering her ambitions to attend.
