You'll notice that the wizarding school does not use grade the way we're used to. Classes are essentially all "pass/fail," with gradations in between only if a professor chooses to put conditions on either ("fail unless he does an extra project in the next week that is really spectacular," "pass only as long as she does not sass me again," etc.). And all students receive a personal evaluation from each teacher. While evaluations are officially logged, they're not always formal, and rarely long.
