One trend that I've noticed happens with a lot of webcomics is that they start out funny and then turn more and more serious, until they're nothing but drama.  Blechh.  I've been determined, from the very beginning, that that would never happen with my comic strip.  Yes, serious moments are necessary at times, and character development can't always be done with just humor.  But a comic strip should always balance out to be more funny than melodrama, otherwise it's failing its main purpose.
