Not only did Dron refuse to write Edriss an evaluation, he refused to give her an official passing or failing grade.  Of course Edriss finds this shocking and horrifying, as she is extremely smart and extremely hard-working, and most teachers consider her the perfect student.  She's an expert in academia, and finds the concept of a teacher who ignores official rules practically unthinkable.  Dron understands how she thinks just fine, but she finds him appalling and baffling.
