Just to be clear, Loretta isn't actually giving up ownership of any of her swords -- she'd never be able to bear that!  She is, instead, loaning them to her friends in the swordfighting guild, whom she feels she can trust to treat them properly.  They're going to be used for guild meetings, which Loretta attends extremely faithfully, so she'll still see them and get to play with them.  But they're contraband at home now, which is terribly painful!  Not that Linnea seems to have much sympathy.
