The Gorgon is also a pretty good judge of character, and she sees in Lettie what Aylia has refused to keep on seeing: that Lettie is the incredibly frustrating person she is in large part because she doesn't feel loved or respected.  Unfortunately, the person Lettie really needs love and respect from is her husband -- getting it from her children wouldn't fix the core problem, and so it doesn't really help anything.  Lettie also chooses to live in her bizarre dream-world, and won't be reached.
