Gundurun is not a spectacular husband.  He's an even less-than-spectacular father.  His idea of a "fair share" of the work is to watch the screaming baby for one hour, whining the whole time about how frustrating and boring it is, and then vanish again at the first available opportunity.  Needless to say, there comes a time when even the most patient woman's going to get fed up and demand he take a fair share of the work.  And Gundur picks his wives for beauty, not personality.
