So, Carolynn's instrument loosely resembles a bagpipe, Charson plays percussion -- standard for most musical styles -- and Gundur does not play anything, though he's essential to the band anyway.  What about Melody?  Her instrument is weird and totally unique to mermaids.  It's a long string, fused into a circle so that it has no ends -- and if you've ever played Jacob's Ladder, you'll know what it looks like when Melody plays the string.  The tail is used like a third wrist, so the string's always taut.
