I like Aylia's reaction here.  Of course her first reaction wouldn't be "All right!" -- she'd think, "What on Earth?"  Especially since the "mysterious faculty member" is rather going out of his way to leave in the dark here.  I don't think he's actually trying to annoy her, though it probably seems that way to her -- he thinks of this as a sort of test, wanting to make sure she's curious enough, and willing to take risks enough, for him to actually consider worthy to work for him.  He's not exactly normal.
