The thing is, in practically any other situation, the Gorgon would have a good point.  The problem is, she's being quite unfair here, because she doesn't understand this situation.  She has never seen an instance of a parent as bad as Aylia's before, because mountain Gorgon society is very strictly against awful parents, so it's quite rare to find situations in her culture where a rebellious child is right.  And without understanding Lettie's personality, it really would look like Aylia's being cruel.
